Photo ColorPicker > Create Palette Step-by-Step
Here is a step by step guide for creating your palette containing colors
from a variety of sources. Check out the Details chapter for more information on features in Photo ColorPicker.
Make New Palette
- Open Photo ColorPicker
- You can also click on "+" on the lower left corner of the screen to make a new empty palette. An Untitled Palette appears under Projects.
- Double-click on the palette's name to edit its name.
Add color from color library
- Go to Libraries, and select a library.
- Navigate by clicking to the left or right of the fan of colors. The patches below the fan stay in sync with the fanned colors. The size of patches can be adjusted using the slider on the lower-right edge of the application window.
- By default, the order of a library is the same as its equivalent guide book. To change sort order, change Sort Order in the lower left panel.
- Click on a color, and drag it onto your palette file. The number to the right of your palette keeps track of how many colors you've added.
- Colors under Harmony, Variations, and Similar will live-update based on the curently selected color, and can be added as well just by clicking on a patch, and drag-drop into your palette. Add a few of these colors to your palette. Press and hold the Command-key (Control-key on Windows) and click on patches to select multiple colors. Release the Command-key (Control-key on Windows) and then click on any selected patch and drag-drop to a palette to add all selected colors.
- If you've accidentally closed your palette window, under Projects, double-click on the palette icon to view the palette contents in its own window.
Extract colors from an image
- Under Resources, click Coloratti Collection. Browse and select an image.
- Navigate through the fan of images, and select one. Photo ColorPicker will automatically create the twelve (12) most significant colors in the image.
- Drag-drop any of these colors into your palette, or choose from any of the options under Relations.
Measure colors with ColorMunki device
- Connect ColorMunki device. It will appear under Resources.
- Click on the ColorMunki icon, under Resources.
- In the resulting ColorMunki information panel, "Status" will indicate whether ColorMunki is ready for measurements or needs calibration. Follow the on-screen instructions on how to Calibrate, take strip measurements or take spot measurements to measure colors.
- Use ColorMunki to measure the color of an object. For each measurement you make, the number counter next to the ColorMunki icon, found under Resources, will increase.
- To view the palette being created from ColorMunki measurements, double-click just to the right of the ColorMunki icon, under Resources.
- Drag-drop colors from the ColorMunki palette window, onto your palette listed under Projects.
Synchronize with your applications
- Select your palette, found under Projects, by clicking on it.
- Check the "Synchronize" check box, found in the lower-left panel of the Photo ColorPicker main application window.
- For a newly created palette, you will need to relaunch your applications for them to see the new swatches.
- When updating an existing palette, you do not need to relaunch your applications for them to see updates.
Sharing a palette with others
To share the palette with others, go to File > Export to export the palette in a wide variety of supported formats.
Note: Photo ColorPicker automatically names colors extracted from images, and measured with the ColorMunki device, based on the name of the closest matching color found in the "Color Groups" color library included with Photo ColorPicker.
